Dawn aka "DVJ" was raised in the Bay Area of northern California and moved here to Maryland 2002. DVJ is well traveled both here and abroad, but currently calls Howard County, Maryland home. She grew up listening to it all...true classic rock, funk, disco, 80-90's rap, metal, country and folk... Spent many years as a child of the 70's singing to her mother's vinyl and 8-track collection which included Sister Sledge, Donna Summer, KC & the Sunshine Band, Peter Frampton, ELO, Doobie Brothers, Eagles, Boston, Cat Stevens & Elton John. She is a huge fan of the singer/songwriters of the past; Jackson Brown, Glen Fry, Phil Collins and some more current talents such as Chris Stapleton. In the early 90's the country music grabber her attention and that added yet another layer of 'ear candy' for her enjoyment. That catapulted her into the competitive country dance word. In 1997, she was part of a 8 lady team that took the International Dance Championships in Salt Lake City, Utah.
In elementary school, she was an alto chorus member and performed well through 6th grade. Middle school brought on instruments where she picked up the flute as well as performed with the school band. Her early 20's was the age of the Karaoke bar.... which propelled her to practice and craft on-stage and in front of people. This only planted the itch to continue performing on ANY level possible.
Lyrics coupled with emotion and feeling are what drive a song home for her. The ability to convey deep emotions and life experiences through song is a drug she can't kick! Having always been around music along with some relatives that dabbled, it's been a passion since she could utter her first words. The vibe to perform on stage and let the vocals fly is something she lives by... her happiest times are performing on stage and of course .... singing with her kids.
